With the new school and university year just around the corner, this is the time of year families sort out laptops, desks and stationery. Earlier this summer we looked at the best-selling WiFi 6 mesh systems for home study. The question we have had most since then is whether it is worth jumping straight to WiFi 7 instead — especially for households where several students are online at once.
WiFi 7 is the newest standard, designed to deliver faster speeds and lower delays when lots of devices share the same network. Most new laptops and phones now support it, so buying a WiFi 7 system today means your home network will not hold back the devices you buy over the next few years. Here are the two TP-Link Deco WiFi 7 systems families are buying most.
TP-Link Deco BE3600 (3-Pack): WiFi 7 for the Whole Family

The Deco BE3600 is the most affordable way into WiFi 7 mesh. It is a dual-band system with speeds of up to 3.6 Gbps, two gigabit Ethernet ports on every unit, and support for up to 150 connected devices — plenty for a busy family home full of laptops, tablets and phones. The 3-pack covers a typical family house, and it is very well reviewed, with a 4.6-star rating from over 4,600 Amazon UK customers.
Best for: families with a couple of students who want reliable WiFi in every bedroom and future-proof speeds.

TP-Link Deco BE65: For Power Users and Home Offices

The Deco BE65 is a step up: tri-band BE9300 WiFi 7 and four 2.5G Ethernet ports for much faster wired connections. If someone in the house is studying computing, video production or design and regularly moves large files, or if a parent works from home on a fast full-fibre connection, the extra headroom is worth having. It is one of TP-Link’s most reviewed mesh routers on Amazon UK, with more than 16,000 ratings averaging 4.4 stars, and you can start with one unit and add more later.
Best for: heavy users, home offices and households on gigabit broadband.
WiFi 6 or WiFi 7 for the New Term?
If your family’s devices are a few years old and you mostly need coverage, a WiFi 6 system will still feel like a big upgrade. If you are buying new laptops for the new term anyway, WiFi 7 is now affordable enough to be worth it — the BE3600 for great all-round value, or the BE65 if you need the fastest speeds. Back-to-school season often brings price drops on Amazon UK, so it is worth checking both before you decide.
